
Juneteenth—on June 19—provides us with an opportunity to reflect, remember, and celebrate an important moment in history. Also known as Jubilee Day and Emancipation Day, this federal holiday commemorates the date when enslaved people in Texas received news of the Emancipation Proclamation, two-and-a-half years after it had gone into effect.
This year, the CU community, including many CU Denver members, walked through Denver as part of the city’s Juneteenth parade (see photos below). Today, the university is closed in observance of the holiday.
