ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta’s celebration of Juneteenth returns this Saturday and Sunday with a parade and festival!

Bob Johnson, the founder of Juneteenth ATL, came to Atlanta News First to discuss the event. This year marks the city’s 13th Juneteenth celebration, which works to unify the community, he said.

Juneteenth, short for June 19, is a federal holiday commemorating the day the last slaves in the Confederacy learned of the Emancipation Proclamation.

The parade leading into the weekend Piedmont Park festival kicks off at noon this Saturday. But if you can’t come in person, don’t worry — Atlanta News First is a proud media sponsor! You can watch the parade on PeachtreeTV from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
