Greenville Juneteenth celebrations will start off next week with the dedication of an artistic homage to the city’s past.

Officials with the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, Visit Greenville NC, the African American Cultural Trail Committee, the City of Greenville and other partners will gather at 10 a.m. on Wednesday to formally open the first Emerald Loop Trolley Shelter near the intersection of First and Cotanche streets. Wednesday is the federal Juneteenth holiday declared in 2021 to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S.
