The Sturgeon Bay community is invited to come together for a day of education, entertainment and unity at Door County’s inaugural Juneteenth gathering on June 21, 10 am – 5 pm at Martin Park, 207 S. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay.

This free event invites all residents and visitors to celebrate the history, culture and significance of Juneteenth. Recognized as the longest-running African-American holiday, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom – more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The holiday serves as a reminder of the ongoing journey toward justice and equality.

The gathering will feature an international speaker as the Master of Ceremonies, a live DJ, a dynamic African drum circle and a Double Dutch jump rope competition. Attendees can learn about Juneteenth’s rich history while enjoying music, movement, and performances that honor the achievements of the African-American community.

While food will not be provided at the event, participants are encouraged to bring their meals.

Resource table opportunities and event sponsorships are encouraged. Organizations and businesses interested in participating can contact event organizer Tracey Robertson at [email protected] for more details.
