VIRGINIA, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The City of Virginia is hosting a Juneteenth celebration next week.

The 4th annual “Iron Range Juneteenth Freedom Celebration” is happening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19.

There will be kids’ activities, free food, live entertainment, and more.

Voices for Ethnic and Multicultural Awareness (VEMA) is one of the hosts for the event.

They say while the celebration is for everyone, it’s especially important for the African American community as they commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S.

The event will take place on the 500 block of Chestnut Street.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers. You can sign up here.
