PORTSMOUTH — The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire has announced that necessary repairs will prevent the iconic vessel Amistad from visiting as part of their Juneteenth 2025 events.
The Amistad is a replica of the 19th-century schooner that was the site of the 1839 rebellion by captive Africans who seized control of the vessel and later won their freedom in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case.
The ship’s visit has been rescheduled for 2026.
The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire said they remain committed to celebrating Juneteenth 2025 with a vibrant lineup of events honoring African American history, resilience, and culture.
Other events planned for Juneteenth 2025 will proceed as scheduled, including the Howard Gospel Choir Concert at The Music Hall on June 15 and the Juneteenth Dinner in collaboration with Black Lives Matter.
The 10th Anniversary Celebration of the African Burying Ground Memorial will take place on June 19, featuring The Akwaaba Ensemble with West African drumming and dance.
