TWENTYNINE PALMS — The city’s fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Knot Sky Park.
Organizers of this free, family-friendly event welcome the community to join in a day of reflection, celebration and connection.
The event is hosted by Women of Color Global in partnership with the city of Twentynine Palms and remains the only Juneteenth festival in the Morongo Basin.
This year’s celebration is sponsored by Grocery Outlet Twentynine Palms.
“Women of Color Global has proudly partnered with the city of Twentynine Palms for the past four years to bring this meaningful celebration to our community,” event director Karen Harper said.
“We’re also grateful for the support of Grocery Outlet 29, whose sponsorship helps make this event possible.”
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform the last remaining enslaved African Americans that they were free. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation took effect Jan. 1, 1863.
Juneteenth has been celebrated for over 160 years and was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
Highlights of the 2025 celebration:
• Live music and DJ performances.
• Poetry readings.
• Culturally themed entertainment.
• Family activities.
