JACKSON, Tenn.—The rain did not stop one event from coming to the Hub City.
A Juneteenth Celebration was held outside the TR White Sportsplex at 10 Saturday morning.
Vendors lined the streets of Hays Avenue selling food, clothing, and more.
The event kicked off with a Freedom Walk and flag raising ceremony.
Several guest speakers also shared messages to attendees.
We spoke with Miss Juneteenth and the president of SAACA about the importance of Juneteenth.
“It’s important to pass on the tradition, the tradition of not just celebration but educating our young people to step up,” said Wendy Trice Martin, President, Society for African-American Cultural Awareness.
“It was our ancestors who fought for, not only for us to have this freedom but for this holiday to be nationally recognized, and it’s kind of our job to carry that on for our children and our children’s children,” said Je’Delle Ross, Miss Juneteenth Jackson 2025.
If you would like to attend the festivities, head over to 304 North Hays Avenue.
The event is scheduled to end at 8 Saturday evening.
