Hot weather is expected over the weekend — including Father’s Day — before rising humidity brings rain chances to North and Central Texas over the Juneteenth holiday.
Dallas-Fort Worth will see highs of 95 on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Tropical moisture is then expected to arrive from the Gulf, with rain chances beginning Monday or Tuesday and continuing through Thursday. Severe weather is unlikely, according to the weather service, and the highest rain chances appear to be in Central Texas. In local areas, heavy rain could still occur.
There is a 20% chance of rain Tuesday and Wednesday, with 30% Thursday, according to the weather service. The potential for rainy weather includes Juneteenth Day on Wednesday. Numerous events and celebrations are scheduled across Dallas-Fort Worth.
The day is long recognized as the official end of slavery in the United States. It became a federal holiday in 2021 after advocacy from Fort Worth’s Opal Lee, known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth.
The rain chances could result in some afternoon or evening showers. Still, there is “a lot of uncertainty” around whether a tropical weather system will develop in the Gulf, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Grant Johnston.
