Juneteenth celebration to be held in Marion, Ill.

MARION, Ill. (HEARTLAND WEEKEND) – The Boyton Street Community Center will host a Juneteenth celebration next Saturday in Marion, Illinois.

The event will take place on June 22 at John W. Jones Park.

According to organizers, the director of the Marion VA Health Care System will be honoring several local veterans starting at 9:45 a.m.

There will also be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament beginning at 10:30 a.m. with $300 for the first-place prize. Team registration is $60 and players must be 15 years of age or older. Interested teams have until 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event to register.

Family Feud and a cornhole tournament will be held throughout the day, with prizes for the winners.

Guests will get to enjoy live music, an inflatable bounce house for kids and local food vendors.

This event is sponsored by Boyton Street Community Center, the Marion Park District, Clearwave Fiber and Legence Bank.
