Juneteenth closures Wednesday in the Brazos Valley

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Juneteenth, the day celebrating the freedom of enslaved Americans following the Civil War, is on June 19. It has long been celebrated in the African American community, and was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.

Several local government offices will be closed Wednesday in honor of Juneteenth.

College Station:

  • City of College Station offices and facilities will be closed
  • Solid waste and recycling collections will operate on a regular schedule
  • Adamson Lagoon will be open from 1 to 7 p.m., and Cindy Hallaran Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • City Services will be closed:
    • City Hall
    • Municipal Court
    • Pet adoption and animal services
    • Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library
  • Blue Bell Aquatic Center will have shorter hours: 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Brenham & Washington County Texas Visitor Center will not be impacted
  • Residential and commercial trash pick-up will not be impacted
  • Collection/transfer and recycling station will remain open
