A big Juneteenth concert was held Saturday night at Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

Uzima Drum and Dance presented a show called “Boundless.”

The concert celebrated the tapestry of African heritage and the ancestors who paved the way into liberation.

Uzima Drum and Dance Artistic Director Kelly Burget said, “With it being the first Juneteenth concert here in our community, it hits especially home for a lot of members of our community. And so we wanted to make sure that we brought in those members of the community so that they would have a voice in this concert.”

The word uzima was chosen from the Swahili language as a mantra for the organization, meaning a celebration of wholeness, health and life.
