MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Myrtle Beach celebrated Juneteenth Freedom Day with a parade and community celebration on Wednesday.
Crowds lined Carver Street as dozens of members from local organizations marched along the road to Charlie’s Place.
Featured in the parade was Patricia Burgess, an alumna of the Myrtle Beach Colored School.

Following the parade, community members gathered to celebrate with food, live music, an Afrocentric fashion show, vendors and dancing.
Juneteenth commemorates the recognized independence day for enslaved African Americans in the United States on June 19, 1865.
This event was hosted by the Neighborhood Services Department.
