KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo’s Bronson Park was the vibrant site of the city’s Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday.
Hosted by local company Rootead, the free event was bigger, bolder, and more soulful than ever, according to organizers.
The celebration aimed to celebrate Juneteenth, which is held each year to commemorate the ending of slavery in the U.S., through music, dance, culture, and connection.
“Everybody has really just came to us with many smiles. Everybody has been happy, and I feel like it’s just been an amazing day. And I feel like Juneteenth is going to continue to grow and be great for all of us,” said Artazijah Julian, owner of Sweet Treats, a vendor at the event.
The event featured plenty of shopping with locally-owned vendors.
Several high-energy live performances were held at Bronson Park, including local youth and dance collectives, live DJs, and more, making it an upbeat event for the whole family.
