Juneteenth is June 19 and several events are happening in Evansville and the surrounding area to celebrate the holiday. Here’s a list of events open to the public.
Ivy Tech Community College Juneteenth vendor fair
Tuesday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 3501 N. First Ave. Free.
Join Ivy Tech as they bring together Black-owned businesses from the community to showcase and sell their products, food trucks, live music, and more!
University of Evansville Juneteenth Vendor Fair
Tuesday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 1800 Lincoln Ave. Free.
UE will be hosting food trucks, live music, and local art and clothing vendors.
Juneteenth community block party
Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Bayard Park. Free.
Celebrate Juneteenth with the fifth annual community block party featuring food vendors, retail vendors, community organizations, live entertainment and kids’ activities such as an art station and bounce houses.
Free Day at Angels Mounds for Juneteenth
Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 8215 Pollack Ave. Free.
Angel Mounds is hosting a free admission day in honor of Juneteenth with live performances and hands-on activities.
Henderson Juneteenth celebration
Sunday, June 16, 4 to 7 p.m., Downtown Henderson Central Park, 10 S. Main St. Free.
This family-friendly event is the third annual celebration of freedom and black culture packed with food, live entertainment, kid’s activities, and black vendors and artists.
Lyles Station Juneteenth celebration
Wednesday, June 19, 1 p.m., Lyles Station, 953 N. 500 West, Princeton, Indiana. Free.
President and founder of Bronzeville/Chicagoan Black Historical Society Sherry Williams will be this year’s guest speaker on the significance of the holiday and its importance in American history.
Evansville Otters Negro Leagues tribute game
Wednesday, June 19, 5 p.m., Bosse Field, 23 Don Mattingly Way. Tickets range from $7 to $15.
The Juneteenth game is sponsored by the Evansville African-American Museum as a salute to the Negro Leagues. There will be local vendors, bounce houses and more.
