MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -In honor of Juneteenth kicking off this weekend, the Mississippi Children’s Museum of Meridian hosted the 2nd annual Juneteenth Kid Zone Festival.
From 12 pm until 4 pm, children were immersed in a world of joy and excitement, enjoying activities such as face painting, creating vibrant chalk art, and being captivated by story time with celebrity readers in the library. The air was filled with laughter and cheers as they engaged in various games and were mesmerized by the cultural dances performed by N’spire Walker and her amazing team.
”We are bringing exposure to the children; everything is about exposure, so if you are not able to feel it and experience it, then you really won’t understand it, so here at the children’s museum as well as tomorrow at the Temple Theater, it’s about bringing exposure so they can understand it’s one thing of us to say hey this is about freedom like we can be out here and celebrate together and here it’s a lot of diversity, we see different color different ages and it‘s showing that we can come together and celebrate our freedom,” says N’spire Walker, Owner of N’spire Afrocise.
”It’s been great; last year was one of our busiest days, and it’s shaping up to be a great day today, too, as well; we’ve had a great turnout. We are so grateful to First Mississippi Federal Credit Union for sponsoring today and our partnership with the city of Meridian’s Cultural Affairs Department. We had a great event last year, and we appreciate them hosting their Juneteenth Kidzone event here at the children’s museum.,” says Barbara Zeller, Executive Director, MCM-Meridian.
The Juneteenth festivities continue on Sunday with the Freedom Day play at the Temple Theater.
