Juneteenth celebrations continued into the Wednesday evening across Metro Detroit.
The second annual free Juneteenth concert was put on at the Hawk Theatre in Farmington Hills.
The band Mollywoop! was one of the performers at the concert on June 19.
“It’s a big deal,” Farmington Hills City Council Member Jackie Boleware said. “It’s a national holiday. We’re going to celebrate; we’re going to show our diversity.”
In Detroit, the Downtown Detroit Partnership kicked off summer movie nights in the D by showing the film The Color Purple.
“This is perfect, it’s inclusive, there’s diversity,” one movie-goer said. “I’m seeing a lot of people out here celebrating.”
