LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Several Juneteenth events kicked off across the state today, here in Little Rock the celebrations continued at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, with over a hundred vendors and talented artists.

Key Fletcher has been organizing “Juneteenth In Da Rock” for over 5 years now and says she admires the history Little Rock holds.

“Whenever we think about Juneteenth whenever we think about freedom, we think about historic west 9th street,” Fletcher said.

She says many don’t know or understand the evolution of West 9th street, but she ensures to educate people each year during the event.

“This we were in was the historic black community for little rock we used to host Juneteenth here in this area, “Fletcher said.

The tradition continues with hundreds of Arkansans like Jacinda Jones who says it’s important to honor America’s new beginning after ending slavery.

“Were celebrating black life black freedom you know the resilience of the people,” Jones said.

This is her second year attending this event–she says it amazing to be a part of something culturally progressive in the community.

“It allowed us to reach more people and to see more people,” Jones said.
