DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Hundreds of Northlanders gathered together for music, food, and the power of freedom.
The NAACP hosted its 50th annual Juneteenth Jamboree on Wednesday at the Central Hillside Community Center in Duluth.
Juneteenth is an American holiday that celebrates the abolition of slavery. Ka’mya Washington, who is from Duluth, says Juneteenth allows her to meet new people in the community.
”When events like this and we all get together, I feel like we can get to know all these different races and different cultures,” said Washington. “Get to know about each other.”
Attendees could also get haircuts, listen to music, and there was entertainment for kids with a bouncy house.
The Juneteenth Jamboree also featured BIPOC vendors, who could sell their goods to community members.
