SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Orlandeaux’s Cross Lake Café hosted a Juneteenth celebration Wednesday, June 19.
At the event, there was:
- live entertainment
- music
- food
- drinks
- poetry
- games
Damien Chapman, fifth-generation owner of Orlandeaux’s cafe, celebrated Juneteenth with an outdoor gathering at the restaurant, a place he calls a community staple.
“It’s very vital for the community to be able to come and celebrate our culture and our history,” Chapman said. “There are a lot of great events that are happening the weekend before and the weekend after, but not very many events that were happening actually today to kind of give people somewhere to go and hang out and celebrate and get into the spirit.”
A couple from Mansfield says today was a special occasion for them.
“Well today is a special occasion for us, a special holiday. And we came here because my husband and I decided to choose a restaurant that’s historical, that’s been here for Black owned businesses, and Orlandeaux is one of our favorites, and we come here often,” Catina Perry said.
The freedom celebration started at 5 p.m. and will wrap up at 8 p.m.
