The 17-year-old charged with aggravated assault in the Round Rock Juneteenth shooting admitted to police that he fired his gun and struck one person in the leg, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS Austin.
The affidavit details the account of an officer who was working security at the Juneteenth celebration at Old Settler’s Park on June 15. The officer reported hearing gunshots at approximately 11 p.m. and running in the direction of the shots, but was unable to locate the shooter. The officer then began providing medical attention to the wounded.
One of the 14 people injured in the shooting was a 17-year-old male who later went to St. David’s Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, the affidavit states.
On June 19, police interviewed Ricky Tyrone Thompson III, who admitted to being at the scene with a 9mm firearm, according to the affidavit. Thompson told police he fired three rounds in the direction of the 17-year-old victim, striking him once in the leg. After the interview, Thompson led officers to the firearm he used.

Thompson has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. He was arrested on June 20 and booked into the Williamson County Jail. He remains in custody under a $1,000,000 bond.
The shooting at the Juneteenth celebration resulted in the deaths of Lyndsey Vicknair, 33, and Ara Duke, 52, both mothers from the Round Rock area.
Police Chief Allen Banks said the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups at the event attended by hundreds. The investigation is still ongoing and police are working to identify other suspects involved.
On Friday, police announced that a second suspect, a male juvenile, had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
