PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Thursday night, the Providence City Council will vote to approve the five appointed members to the school board.

They’ll also work on a resolution to endorse house speaker Joseph Shekarchi’s bill to free up more emergency shelters.

And the council will discuss an ordinance, which would establish Juneteenth as an official municipal holiday.

The Ocean State adopted the holiday just last year.

This bill comes as the Pentagon released a memo entitled “identity months dead at d-o-d” and will no longer allow the observance Black History Month.

The Providence City Council will meet tonight at 6.
