TEXARKANA, Tx. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Scholars are hosting a City Wide Juneteenth Extravaganza.

The Scholars are on a mission to bring the city together in celebration of Juneteenth with various events throughout the month of June.

The Gospel Explosion kicked off the festivities on June 8 with LeAndria Johnson and the Texarkana Twin City Youth Choir performance.

Downtown Texarkana will come alive with a Juneteenth Parade and Festival on June 15. The free Southern Soul and Blues R&B concert will feature performances by TK Soul, Donnie Ray, Michael Rhodes, and DJ Hollygrove.

The festival will take place on Front Street from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The “Keeping History Alive” Texarkana College Stilwell Theatre production will take place on June 22 at 6 p.m.

In celebration of African History, culture, and heritage, The Scholars and Texarkana College Black Students Association will showcase Musical presentations. Baba Kwasi of Ayubu Kamau is one of many who will take center stage.

On June 29, the Terry Rogers 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament will take place at the Washington Community Center.

The tournament has a registration fee of $50 per team, and the grand prize of $2,400 will be awarded to the first-place winning team.

The tournament honors the legacy of former Boys and Girls Club Director Terry Rogers.
