A tropical system is expected to dump heavy rainfall on the Houston area Tuesday and Wednesday leading to the cancellation of some events.

HOUSTON — With the threat of heavy rain and the risk of flooding in Southeast Texas, some communities are canceling or postponing Juneteenth events planned for Wednesday.

A weak tropical system is expected to develop in the Bay of Campeche by Tuesday. While landfall won’t happen near Houston, the system is expected to dump heavy rain across the area on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Storm Prediction Center is now including a significant risk for flooding on Wednesday across Southeast Texas.

Since Juneteenth is a federal holiday, several events in the Greater Houston area are planned for Wednesday but some have already been canceled because of weather concerns.
