BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) – As we are just days away from Juneteenth, hundreds of people began the festivities early with a celebration Saturday (June 15) in Bossier City.
Stonewall Baptist Church and the Bossier City NAACP branch held an event titled Jubilee. It included food, games, entertainment, and lots of fun. Organizers say this event celebrates African American history and Freedom Day, empowering the community, just in time for Juneteenth.
“It was great. It was a good community, neighborhood involvement. We had vendor booths, free food, games. We had a wonderful time today,”
“We should always celebrate because when we look back from where we come, it is just wonderful for people to get together and embrace what happened back then, and even right now. And thirdly, it should be an educational piece,”
Stonewall Baptist Church said this is the first time they’ve hosted Jubilee, and they are already planning to celebrate Juneteenth again with another event next year.
