CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Juneteenth is a federal holiday, which means some stores and businesses will be closed.
Banks and post offices will be closed on Wednesday, but major restaurants, grocery, and retail stores will remain open, according to USA Today. Stores such as Target, Walmart, Starbucks, and Costco, among many others, will keep their doors open.
The Federal Reserve and its 24 bank branches are set to be closed Wednesday for Juneteenth. Other banks, such as Capitol One, Bank of America, J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo, Chase, and American National Bank, will also close.
UPS and FedEx pickup and delivery services will be available on Juneteenth. UPS Store and FedEx Office locations will also be open on Wednesday.
The Administrative Office of the United States Courts said that federal courtrooms would be closed, but e-filing is still available. Stock markets will also be closed on Wednesday.
Certain trash collections may be delayed due to the holiday. Check with your town/city to find out if yours is delayed.
Juneteenth is considered the longest-running African American holiday and has since been observed with celebrations and even becoming a multicultural holiday in some areas of the U.S. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday under the Biden Administration, when the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act went into law.
