WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) – Organizers of Juneteenth celebrations in Winooski are carrying on despite the scorching temperatures expected Wednesday.

With temperatures expected to be in the high 80s late Wednesday afternoon, Officials say they plan to set up a cooling station with shade, fans, and free water. They also suggest attendees head inside surrounding businesses if they get too hot.

It comes as some vendors have backed out of the event. But Sarah Brunkhorst, one of the organizers, says not enough to put a dent in the celebration. “Winooski is such a wonderfully diverse place and events like Juneteenth have such an important historical meaning, especially to our Black residents and residents of color. It’s so important that we celebrate them no matter what, even if it is a little hot outside,” she said.

The party at Rotary Park will kick off at 5 p.m. and feature music, crafts, and a mural designed by a high school student.
