LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Juneteenth is coming up and Lawton is gearing up with different celebrations across the community.
Here to discuss the events as well as the history behind Juneteenth, is Bishop John Dunaway, the Chairman of the Lawton-Fort Sill Juneteenth Committee.
The events will include:
- Juneteenth Prayer Breakfast – June 14, 2024 from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the Patterson Center
- Juneteenth BBQ Competition – June 14, 2024 beginning at 10 a.m. at Elmer Thomas Park
- Juneteenth Citywide Celebration – June 14, 2024 from 5 to 9 p.m. and June 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Elmer Thomas Park; June 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Patterson Center
- Juneteenth Unity Event – June 15, 2024 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Baptist Church.
