Community members are invited to participate in the Evanston area-wide Juneteenth Parade, a celebration of freedom, culture and community. This year, we come together to honor the historical significance of Juneteenth, which marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates the ongoing journey toward equality and justice.
Why Juneteenth matters
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19, serves as a powerful reminder of resilience and the ongoing fight for civil rights. It represents not just a historical milestone, but a call to action to continue advocating for justice and equity in our communities. This parade is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, celebrate our diverse cultures, and foster unity among all residents of Evanston and the Chicagoland area.
What to expect
The parade will feature:
Local Organizations: Marching groups and floats representing schools, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations.
Live Performances: Enjoy music & dance from the South Shore Drill team, Jesse White Tumblers and other artists.
Family Activities: Fun and engaging activities for kids and families at the parade’s conclusion.
Food and Vendors: Delicious food options and local vendors showcasing their crafts and services.
