Jonesboro wraps up Juneteenth celebrations with firework display

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Juneteenth celebrations occurred all month in Jonesboro, and on Wednesday evening, the community came together to wrap the celebrations with a bang.

“Now we’ve come to the actual Juneteenth holiday, and our big finale with fireworks so we are just excited for what’s about to happen and excited for the community. It’s definitely my favorite part of the celebration,” said KLEK radio owner Laganzie Kale.

This event was held at University Heights Lions Park.

Before the fireworks began, they had Zhedrick Jackson sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The event also featured music, and they gave away prizes.

Then Mayor Harold Copenhaver got the mic for a proclamation reading.

The finale featured a 15-minute fireworks show. The lead pyrotechnic Scott Barry said he was excited to put this show on.

“To celebrate Juneteenth and the black history and the month we’re celebrating here, they’ve had activities all week, and we’re doing the show as the grand finale to their celebration out here,” Barry said.

This was the third year the event was held in Jonesboro.
