
(WALA) – Juneteenth celebrations took place Saturday on both sides of bay.
In Mobile County, people lined the streets in Prichard for the biggest Juneteenth parade on the Gulf Coast as it made its way down Main Street. There was also a watermelon festival, Black Expo, health fair and concert.
There was live music, cultural performances, delicious food and family-friendly activities.
Meanwhile in Baldwin County, Juneteenth was celebrated at the Fairhope Pier for the fifth annual event there. People had the chance to network and get marketing opportunities with over 40 different vendors.
There was also live music performed by DJ Meat, and food trucks were available.
The health department provided employment opportunities as well. The event started at 3 p.m. and wrapped up at 8 p.m.
Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
