ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) Dozens were at the Hotel Bentley on Saturday, June 15, celebrating Juneteenth, at the second annual ‘Noir the Fashion Affair’.

The celebration featured a two-part fashion show, where models not only showcased fashion, but also told stories of how they overcame their struggles. From things like cancer, drug addiction even victims of gun violence, attendees heard stories of resilience and hope, all while they celebrated culture and brought the community together to honor this significant day in American history.

Organizers said ‘Noir’ is more than just entertainment. It is a chance to educate and celebrate the progress that has been made while recognizing there is more to be done.

“Instead of just focusing on years behind us, there’s so much tragedy still going on,” said Amanita Kay the event’s organizer. “So, let’s fix what’s broken now because we can’t change the past. However, we can make a difference in people’s lives now.”

Keeping with the celebrations, hundreds in Alexandria gathered on the steps of City Hall in observance of Juneteenth. There was live music, food vendors and that vibrant mix of culture which links Central Louisiana together.
