MOORHEAD — The city of Moorhead is seeking nominations for an award it gives annually on Juneteenth.
According to a press release from the city, nominations are open for the Destiny Holiday Community Champion Award, which will be given at the Moorhead Juneteenth event on June 19. The award is named after Destiny Holiday, a community leader who
organized the first community Juneteenth celebration
in Moorhead. Holiday died in 2022.

Juneteenth National Independence Day is celebrated annually on June 19, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States on June 19, 1865.
According to a press release from the city of Moorhead, the award is given to a Moorhead resident whose contributions to the community exemplify the compassion, resilience and commitment to lifting up others exhibited by Holiday. The Moorhead Human Rights Commission established the award in 2023.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, May 20, the city said. The recipient will be notified on June 5.
