VERNON, Texas (KAUZ) – The community of Vernon came together in honor to celebrate and recognize Juneteenth.
The celebration is a three-day long event, with Saturday being the Flagship Day this included activities like an exhibit for history, snow cones, and bounce houses. But most importantly several speakers came to talk about the history of Juneteenth and educate the community of its importance.
“Not to separate ourselves from anybody but to keep our history and our culture going for ourselves and within our community. Building up your own community and then involving yourself within the city that you live in.” Attendee Sjohonton Fanner explained.
The President of the planning committee for the event, added every American should look at all history, not just one side, so that way we are educated on the progress we’ve made.
